Artist statement Blendr

For this project, I created a series of farm animals equipped with wings. The characters are part of a series I call “Flying Farm”. The animals are rendered with a mix of realistic and cartoony elements, giving them a childlike aesthetic. I chose to create a cow, a pig, and a goat and each animal corresponds with a figure of speech or children’s song/story. The cow character is titled “Cow Over the Moon’ after the “Hey Diddle Diddle” rhyme. I animated the cow to move around a rotating moon. While this was mostly successful, there is a part in the animation where the wings detach from the body, which is something I want to work to fix. The pig is inspired by the saying, “When Pigs Fly”. I animated the legs to move so that the pig appears to be floating. I eventually want to rig the pig to fly around in a circle. The final character I created is my own spin on the saying “counting sheep to go to sleep.” As I was not too excited about the prospect of creating a blender sheep, I decided to opt for a goat instead. In addition, I created a fence as a prop for the goat to jump over. As opposed to the bird wings that I used for the other animals, the goat has insect wings instead. I hope to eventually bring all these characters into the same universe and have them all moving together simultaneously.
